Most articles tell you to put a citrine crystal in the southeast corner and call it done. That is surface-level advice. Real Feng Shui does not work that way.
In classical Feng Shui, wealth is not controlled by one corner. It is the result of three forces working together: the physical space (your home's layout), the temporal energy (the annual flying stars), and your personal energy (your BaZi chart). Ignore any one of these, and the wealth corner becomes just a decoration.

Where Is the Wealth Corner, Actually?
There are two answers, and they are different. Knowing which one applies to you is the first step most people skip.
The Fixed Wealth Sector: Southeast (Xun Palace)
In the Eight Mansions (八宅) system, the southeast sector of any home is governed by the Xun (巽) trigram — Wood element, associated with abundance, gentle growth, and trade. This is the fixed wealth position of every building, regardless of who lives there. Activating this sector benefits everyone under the roof.
The Annual Wealth Star: It Moves Every Year
This is where most online advice falls apart. In the Flying Star (玄空飛星) system, the wealth-bringing star — the Eight White Left Assistant Star (八白左辅星) — moves to a different sector every year. In 2026, the 8 White star resides in the southwest (坤) sector. If you set up your wealth corner in the southeast based on a 2023 article, you are working with last year's energy. The annual star placement matters more than the fixed sector for short-term financial results.
Your Personal Wealth Direction
Your BaZi chart determines which of the eight trigram directions is your personal Sheng Qi (生氣) — the direction that attracts prosperity specifically for you. What to Remove From Your Wealth Corner — Immediately
Placing the right objects only helps if you remove the wrong ones first. Here is what blocks wealth energy:
- Clutter and storage boxes. Stored items represent stagnant energy. If your wealth corner is a storage closet, clear it out before doing anything else.
- Dead or dying plants. A dead plant in the wealth sector is a direct symbol of declining finances. Remove it the same day.
- Trash cans and cleaning supplies. These carry the energy of disposal and elimination — exactly the opposite of what you want in a wealth area.
- Broken items. A broken clock, a chipped vase, a lamp that does not turn on — anything that does not function sends the message that things do not work in this space.
- Toilet or bathroom. If your wealth sector falls inside a bathroom, water literally flushes away. Keep the door closed, the lid down, and place a plant or mirror on the outside wall to deflect energy away from the drain.
The Five Elements and Your Wealth Corner
If your wealth corner is in the southeast, the ruling element is Wood. The productive cycle is: Water → Wood → Fire. The destructive cycle is: Metal → Wood → Earth.
This means: Water and Wood objects support wealth in the southeast. Metal objects weaken it. Avoid large metal furniture, metal wind chimes, or excessive white and gray colors in the southeast sector. Instead, use greens (Wood), blues and blacks (Water), and small touches of red (Fire) to feed the Wood energy.
If you are activating the annual wealth star in the southwest (2026), the ruling element there is Earth. Fire feeds Earth (productive), Wood weakens Earth (destructive). Adjust your objects accordingly.
Three Signs Your Wealth Corner Is Working
- Unexpected income appears. A refund, a freelance inquiry, a gift — small, unplanned money is often the first sign that wealth chi is moving.
- You feel different in the space. Walk into your wealth corner. Does it feel light, open, and welcoming? Or heavy, crowded, and neglected? The feeling tells you more than any compass reading.
- Opportunities find you. After 30–60 days of correct placement, you should notice more incoming opportunities — even if they are not yet closed deals. Energy moves before money does.
