The Email I Wish I'd Gotten Sooner

"Master Wang, we bought our dream home six months ago. Since we moved in, my husband lost his job, our son started having nightmares, and I've been diagnosed with an autoimmune condition. Is it the house?"

I get versions of this email every month. And every time, my first thought is: I wish they'd asked me before they signed.

Most people spend months researching neighborhoods, comparing mortgage rates, and negotiating prices. But they spend zero minutes checking the Feng Shui of their future home โ€” the biggest investment of their lives.

Here are the three critical Feng Shui checks to make before you sign. Each one takes minutes. Missing any one could cost you years.

Check #1: What Your Front Door Faces

In classical Feng Shui, the front door is called "the mouth of chi." All energy โ€” good and bad โ€” enters here. What your front door faces determines what energy comes into your life.

Red flags โ€” do not buy if the front door faces:

  • A T-junction (road pointing directly at your door) โ€” the most serious sha qi (killing energy) in Feng Shui
  • A cemetery, funeral home, or hospital โ€” yin energy overwhelms the home
  • A church, temple, or police station directly opposite โ€” these are "clashing" energies
  • A large tree directly in front (within 10 feet) โ€” blocks opportunity from reaching you
  • A sharp building corner or roofline pointing at your door โ€” "poison arrow" sha qi

Good signs: An open view, a gentle curve in the road, a garden or water feature, a slightly higher building behind you. The front door should open to possibility, not threat.

Check #2: The Shape of the House

In Bagua Feng Shui, the shape of your floor plan directly maps to areas of your life. A square or rectangle is ideal โ€” complete and balanced. But many modern homes have missing corners, which create "missing" life areas.

What Each Missing Corner Costs You:

Missing SE cornerMoney problems, difficulty accumulating wealth
Missing SW cornerRelationship struggles, difficulty finding or keeping a partner
Missing NW cornerLack of mentors and benefactors, men's health issues

Check #3: What's Behind You

In classical Feng Shui, the back of your home is your "support" โ€” your career stability, your health foundation, your ability to withstand challenges. A home with a strong back has a mountain, a hill, or taller buildings behind it. A home with no support behind it leaves you exposed.

Red flags behind the house:

  • Nothing behind it โ€” sits on a ridge, cliff edge, or the last house on a street with open land behind
  • Water behind โ€” a river, lake, or canal directly behind the house (water in front = wealth; water behind = washed away)
  • Downward slope behind โ€” the ground drops away; your support is literally sliding away
  • Highway or train tracks behind โ€” constant movement, noise, and sha qi eroding your foundation

Ideal: A gentle slope rising behind the house, or a taller building, hill, or mature trees. This is the "Black Tortoise" formation โ€” one of the four celestial guardians of classical Feng Shui.

The Bottom Line
